Is Your Community Ready for the Landfill Ban?
What landfill ban? Starting in 2012 specific electronics will be banned from the landfill. This means that anyone caught improperly disposing of an old TV, Monitor, Printer, etc. could be fined. You can help your residents comply with the law by offering opportunities to get rid of old electronics at collection events, hosting a drop off center or even contracting with a service to offer a home pick up program. Through this website, you can post information about your needs to see what recyclers could serve your needs to help you Connect to Recycling!
Electronic Recycling in Illinois
Did you know that beginning in 2012 electronics will be banned from landfills? What does that mean? It means that any individual caught placing banned items in their trash may be fined or issued a citation. Electronics are being banned from our landfills to protect our health and conserve valuable resources. Many electronics contain the following harmful materials; such as lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium which are toxic and threaten our soil and water quality. Electronic recycling programs carefully separate the good from the bad and bundle them for recycling or re-use.
State Electronics Challenge
